Hi Everyone…
It’s been awhile since I’ve updated my report, this has
been a very, very busy year for me and now with things winding
down I’m able to catch up on a few things…I wanted to say “Thank
You” to all the customers I had this past year, We had a great
time with lots of memories. I’m pretty much done fishing for the
year, as I have other commitments during the late fall and
winter months. However, I am Booking Trips for the Upcoming 2012
Spring Chinook Season and plan on starting around mid March, so
don’t hesitate to send me a message if you’re interested in a
trip.
2011
Alaska Photos
These are
just a few photos from our Alaska Fishing Trip of 2011.
This past year was one
of the best seasons for me, we caught plenty of fish through the
spring season, primarily mostly on herring and prawn spinners on
the Wind River and Drano Lake areas….After the spring season I
went to Alaska for 4 weeks and ran a guide boat on the Nushagak
River for Alaska King Salmon Adventures. You know, a person can
get pretty spoiled up there, there were tons of fish.!!! We had
lots of doubles, triples, and an occasional quad (four kings on
at the same time), it was unbelievable, just loads of fun..!!!
When I arrived home, it was time for the Summer
Steelhead…Again there was a big summer run, but the water
temperature on the Columbia River was not warm enough to pull
the fish into the usual places, Wind River or Drano Lake
areas…so we had to fish mostly in the Columbia River itself to
catch them, and the fishing was good…
Then it was time for the Priest Rapids/Hanford Reach
areas. I’ve fished this area for many years and have not missed
a season since I was 18 years old..!!! I generally like to fish
the holes from the Vernita Bridge down to the White Bluffs
areas. I like to use divers and bait and wrapped flatfish…(The
new Yakima Bait Hawg Nose Flatfish did very well for me,
especially when I added a wrapped sardine fillet)….We had some
awesome days early in the season, and it pretty much leveled out
for the remainder of the season…All in all the fishing was very
good at the Hanford Reach this past fall…
Again “Thank You” everyone for your support who fished
with me, I hope we get to see and fish together again…I had a
great time and I’m looking forward to next year, for more
memories and more catching….!!!!!
Tight Lines,

With the New Year approaching fast, I would
like to take a moment and say “Thank You” to everyone that
fished with me this past year. I had a fantastic and enjoyable
time with my customers and this was far my best year ever, “ThankYou..!!!”
I haven’t posted anything since I arrived back from Alaska in
mid-July, but I did have an awesome time there, on the Nushagak
River, running a guide boat for Alaska King Salmon Adventures. I
plan on going back again this summer, feel free to visit there

Finished off with a Great Spring Chinook
Season at Drano Lake/Wind River areas, then
after arriving back from Alaska, I immediately
started running summer steelhead trips on the
Columbia River above and below Bonneville Dam,
the Drano Lake area, from mid-July through
Mid-September…fishing was very good the first
half of the season but slowed after the full
moon was really showing up in the evening…The
fishing at night was “Red Hot”…Its like this
every year…So new this year, I’m thinking of
running some night time summer steelhead fishing
trips!!!!!…hmmmm...should be interesting :-)

From the last week of September through the
end of October, I moved up to the Priest Rapids/Hanford Reach
area for the Upriver Fall Chinook…I really like fishing this
area, and look forward to it every year. I’ve fished this area
every year for over 30 years, since I was 18 years old…and every
year this area has produce fished. Divers and eggs is all I used
this year and have done exceptionally well…However seemed like
the majority of all the fishermen were using the Superbaits
charged with tuna in oil, with downriggers, they did well all
also.

Now, I’m looking forward to this coming
spring..!!! The Spring Chinook season is my favorite time of
year…I will be booking trips from March 20th through the end of
May for Spring Chinook on the Columbia River from the I-5 area
up to the Drano Lake/Wind River areas….this also includes
Sturgeon fishing….
A run of 198,400 Spring Chinook are forecasted to enter the
Columbia River in 2011 headed for upstream of Bonneville Dam,
which is the 6th largest return since 1979. The forecast calls
for around 40,000 5 year olds, which are larger and tend to be a
bit earlier, and 158,400 4 year olds….All the final numbers are
not complete, but looks like were in for a good spring fishery…
So again, don’t hesitate to book early for the upcoming
season…..I will be looking forward to hearing from you!!!…We are
starting our upcoming season beginning March 20th 2011 for
Spring Chinook..!!!!
Take care and see ya on the water..!!

Here
we are a gain with another Spring Salmon season, and
the fishing has been nothing short of
spectacular.!!!
With potentially record breaking runs returning to
the Columbia River system, we are catching these
fine tasting Columbia River Salmon.!!!

We've
started the season around the I-5 Bridge area, and
always limiting before noon...The bait of choice, of
course, dyed blue herring.. rigged up with
flasher, 6 oz of lead and dragging the bottom..!!!
With the
season in this area closing April 18th, we moved up
to the Drano Lake/Wind River area, Prawn
rigs...seemed to be the bait of choice and a close
second were the bait wrapped Mag Lip Flatfish (
formerly the M2-SP) in the lake itself...
I like to
fish the mouth of Drano Lake early in the season for
the fish that tend to nose around, before heading
back out to the Columbia River.....but some fish
tend to stick around and stack up in the lake
itself....With the Prawn Rig, I'm fishing anywhere
from 18 to 24 feet deep, and I noticed that some
anglers are picking up fish just right off the
bottom, but getting hung up frequently if not
paying close attention...Early in the morning until
around 9 a.m. the fishing in the Lake itself has
been doing very well with bait wrapped Mag Lip
Flatfish fished about 60 feet behind the boat...
The bank
anglers have been doing extremely well, casting
Fatfish (from Yakima Bait) and Magnum Wiggle Warts
in Flo. Pink, Flo. Orange, Flo. Red and the Red
Tiger....These colors seem to be the most
popular and the fish are being caught..!!!! The guys
on the Columbia River side fishing off the bank have
been doing extremely well also, casting plugs when
the wind is not blowing very hard, and plunking with
shrimp and spin-glos.
The
counts over Bonneville Dam have been consistent on a
daily basis lately and the fishing at Drano Lake and
Wind River should produce well until the end of
May..
This year
I'm heading back to the Alaska's Nushagak River
around June 1st and plan on running a boat for
Alaska King Salmon Adventures until Mid-July. The
fishing is nothing short of Spectacular..!!! Feel
free to visit their new website at
www.alaskakingsalmon.com ....I can't say enough
about the camp but you will be well taken care
of....The scenery and wildlife is
breathtaking.....they have heated Westport Tents
with plenty of room with nice comfy beds, the food
is awesome, hot showers, flushing toilets...you just
can't go wrong..!!!
As of now
I do have a few openings during the weekdays and a
couple of weekend days open through the end of May,
so if your interested in catching some springer's
please feel free to give me a call @ 503-997-2279 or
visit my web for more info @ www.hookedonfishingguideservice.com
Most
likely I will not post another report until I get
back from Alaska, so if you want to book a trip for
after Mid-July, just shoot me an email and when I
return I will contact you....I'll be booking for
Columbia River and Drano Lake Summer Steelhead,
Sturgeon, Columbia River Fall Chinook up to Priest
Rapids/Hanford Reach areas and Klickitat
River Coho..
Hope to
hear from you and/or see ya on the water....

FISHING REPORT:
December 1st, 2009 Hi everyone...Well I haven't posted anything
for the past 5 months so i figured I better catch up with what
has been going on.
First of all I wanted
to thank all of you who booked a trip with me. I really enjoyed
your company, we shared stories, laughed, joked and caught fish.
This has been one of the greatest years ever for me and I will
treasure it always. "Thank You" !!!
After I arrived back
home from Alaska, in mid-July, we were right into some great
steelhead action, mostly at Drano Lake. We've had some record
numbers of Steelhead pouring up and over Bonneville Dam, and
with the warming temps of the Columbia River, these fish were
pulling into the mouths of the rivers which flowed into the
Columbia. Cooling themselves off, before heading back out and up
the big river. We concentrated our efforts at Drano Lake, It was
like fishing in a trout hatchery, had tons of fun, caught many
limits and this area remained very productive until mid-
September.
But then it was time to
chase the fall Chinook upriver, we fished the area at the mouth
of the Klickitat River for about a week and did well on some
early silvers and some nice looking fall Chinook. Then I was
committed to start running trips on the 24th of September at the
Priest Rapids/Hanford Reach areas for about a month straight.
The upriver season started off with a bang and never let up, we
had non-stop action for several weeks. We then had 3 days that
it had slowed down some but the action picked right back up
until the season was closed a week early because of to many fish
being caught, leaving me with no choice but to try and convince
my customers to fish for silvers at the mouth of the Klickitat.
I was able to convince some groups and it was a good choice,
because yet again the fishing was excellent. We fished up in the
mouth of the river itself pulling plugs. Once the fishing slowed
down for the day we tried some drift fishing for Sturgeon out on
the Columbia just to keep the action going through the rest of
the day.
For now, I'm done fishing until the Spring Salmon
Season begins and from I've heard were looking at a banner 2010
season!!!!! Spring Chinook are my favorite to fish for and I
can't wait for this coming spring to arrive.!!! So I will be
taking Bookings Now for the upcoming season and begin fishing
around the end of March until June. I will also be booking for
Sturgeon, Summer Steelhead, Fall Chinook and Silvers for the
remainder of the year.
So get in touch with me, book a trip or two and we'll have a
great time for the upcoming season..!!!
See ya soon Dave 503-997-2279

Hello Everyone...
It's been pretty busy for me after I came back from
spending 6 weeks in Alaska...I had a great time and met many
people and had the opportunity to meet old friends also...
After I arrived back home, it was straight to Steelhead
fishing at Drano Lake. With the record breaking returns, the
opportunity was there, to easily catch these fish. Trolling with
spinners and bobber fishing, were the go to method in putting
limits in your boat.... After that, we chased the fall Chinook
and Coho, from Astoria all the way up to the mouth of the
Klickitat, then headed for the Priest Rapids/Hanford Reach
areas. We had action all day long in the Upper Columbia, and
still continue to do so....Anglers are saying that the fishing
has slowed down there but I haven't seen it yet....It has been
very well for me and my other partner.....Wrapped Flatfish/Kwikfish,
Superbaits, herring, and eggs are the way to go, but with the
low water flow, be prepared to change your tactics.
I have only a few days open and a couple of seats open, so give
me a call if your interested.
Hope to hear from you,
Dave @ Hooked On Fishing Guide Service

Well it's that time of the year again....Spring Chinook winding
down. We had a good season, this past season, in order to be
able to get fish in the boat, you had to be prepared and ready
to be able to fish with different baits.....One day it was prawn
spinners, next day was herring, plugs, wrapped flatfish and sand
shrimp....you name it, you just had to have everything with you
to be able to be successful...It was totally a different
year.....
Now, I'm focusing on Heading to Alaska, as a matter of
fact I'm leaving June 1st, and scheduled to return July 16th. I
will be running a boat for Alaskan King Salmon Adventures....and
I can't wait to go after the fish, we should have a banner
year... By the time I arrive, the Summer
Steelhead will begin to show in steady and increasing numbers
over Bonneville Dam, and I will be fishing for them below
Bonneville and in the Drano Lake area....and of course oversize
sturgeon as well...Beginning August 1st, we'll be able to fish
above Marker 85 up to the Boat deadline below Bonneville....

As the season moves on then there
will be the Fall Chinook and Silvers from Astoria's Buoy 10 all
the way to the Priest/Rapids Hanford Reach areas, and this fall
season it is forecasted for over a million silvers to enter the
Columbia River system...So this is good news for all of us, and
hopefully this number materializes....
This last spring by far has been the busiest for me,
and I wanted to thank all of you who fished with me. I've
enjoyed everyone's company and we all had a great time..."Thanks
Again"
So if your interested in fishing for anyone of the
fisheries that I have mentioned please feel free to give me a
call or better yet shoot me an email
fishinfool1025@comcast.net and when I get back from Alaska,
I will get back to you....
Take care everybody and see you soon...!!! Dave @ Hooked On Fishing Guide Service

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!!!
RIGHT NOW WE ARE BOOKING FOR THE 2009 SPRING CHINOOK SALMON SEASON ON
THE COLUMBIA AND WIND RIVER, DRANO LAKE AREAS...APRIL 1ST THRU MAY
31ST!!!! ALSO BOOKING COLUMBIA RIVER STURGEON THRU MID JUNE!!!
A recent projection of nearly 300,000 Spring Chinook are expected to
return to the Columbia River this coming Spring. If this happens, this
would make the run the third largest on record!!! With exciting news as
this, our hopes are high for a decent return this spring. These fish are
highly prized and sought after for their excellent tablefare!!!
My advice is to book early with me or one of the areas guides because
once these fish begin to return, it'll be crazy!!!! I cant wait!!!
We finished, our 2008 season, fishing the Priest Rapids/Hanford Reach
areas....Most days we had some great fishing with weather cooperating
and on some days we had to scrounge around for a few fish.
Most of all, I would like to say "Thank You" to my all customers for the
fun, laughs and great times we have shared!!! We all had fun, and to me,
that was the most important!!!
To great times and hope to see you on the water,

the fishing was just awesome..!!! Feel free to visit their website:

I took some time off, spent time with my daughter, friends and now I
ready to start running some serious fishing trips on the Columbia River
System.
Right now, I'm booking for Salmon, Steelhead and Sturgeon, but will be
focusing on this years run of Fall Chinook. It is forecasted that there
will be anywhere from 100,000 to 150,000 more Chinook Salmon entering
the Columbia River, than last year, so there should be ample oppurtunity
from Buoy 10 up to Bonneville Dam to get into some good fishing action.
Also now, I am booking for the Priest Rapids/Hanford Reach Fall
Chinook....for the later part of September through October. These dates
go pretty fast, so make your plans, set a date and give me a call
ASAP!!!

BOOKING NOW.........COLUMBIA RIVER KEEPER/OVERSIZE STURGEON & DRANO LAKE SUMMER STEELHEAD!!!!!
The final day of the Drano Lake Springer season, I was able to make a trip with my 9 year old daughter and we had a great time!!! We were able to boat 4 fish but had to release one large native....and ended up 3 for 4 by 10:30 am!!!
Now, it's the best time to concentrate and fish the Columbia River keeper and oversize sturgeon below Bonneville Dam along with the shad fishery......These prehistoric fish (sturgeon) will test your ability, endurance and fishing tackle to the upmost extent. Sturgeon retention is Thursday-Sunday, we are catching many Keepers (42-60in)and this is prime time to experience the Columbia River Sturgeon with the oversize strictly catch and release any day of the week. The go to bait for oversize, of course, is whole shad and primary bait for keepers are smelt, scented squid and live sandshrimp. I only have a few days open during the week of the 8th of June. After the 16th of June, I am heading to Alaska to help guide on one of the most premier fisheries, the Nushagak River. The river camp is "The Alaskan King Salmon Adventures"..... visit their web: www.alaskakingsalmon.com for more info, I'm very excited to be a part of this fishery and cannot wait to be there... Feel free to give me a call and don't hesitate to ask any questions you may have...... I will not have any cell phone service there, So drop me an e-mail or a phone message and after the 16th of June, as soon as I get back (July 16) , I will get back to you.......!!!!!!!!! I was able to take my daughter, Alissa, out fishing this past Sunday to Drano Lake....And again she outfishes Dad!!! I enjoy taking her fishing very much and she looks forward to these trips with Dad!! We were able to bring 4 fish to the boat but had to release one because it was a native. For those of you that were able to make it to Drano Lake this past spring, we all know that the huge forcasted return didn't materialize as we expected......Fishing was tough, and many of us were wondering if the Springers would ever show up, we had a couple of days of exellent fishing, but as soon as the Tribal nets went in above Bonneville Dam, it completely shut down the fishery at Drano Lake and even after the nets were removed the fishing at Drano never really recovered..... The counts over Bonneville Dam were unusal this year....usually we see a steady incline in numbers and peaks for a week or so and then a steady decline in numbers. This spring, the numbers were all over the place....you would see it building then drop back down to low numbers...it was like this most of the season..with the highest count being around 9600 then dropping back down to 1800 in a matter of days..... I'm sure that many of us "regulars" live for only for these Springers at Drano Lake and after to talking to several others, they themselves plan there vacations around this fishery and look forward to it each and every year. For myself, this is my favorite fishery year after year, I meet many great people and enjoy their company. I will keep fishing it spring after spring as long as we are able too. Now, I am Booking for the Keeper/Oversize Sturgeon with Shad fishing below Bonneville Dam and the Summer Steelhead at Drano Lake.......However on June 14th, I will be heading to Alsaka to help out guiding on one of the river camps on the Nushagak River and return around the 15th of July....
Shoot me an email if your interested in booking a trip....for sturgeon or steelhead.. Hope to hear from you soon,

NOW BOOKING SPRING CHINOOK TRIPS APRIL 1ST THRU MAY 30TH !!!!!!!!!!!
Monster Drano Lake spring chinook run is forecasted for this coming spring!!!!!!
This years spring chinook forecasted run over Bonneville Dam is 269,300, which strongly surpasses last years run of 86,000. The fish this spring are compromised of mostly 4 year olds, so there will be some nice sized ones to be had.
A record high 36,800 spring chinook salmon are predicted to enter Drano Lake........... The last time we had a huge return was back in 2002 with a return of 20,600 spring salmon.....I remember that year very well, we had limited the boat for 3 weeks straight with numerous doubles... The fishing was just downright awesome!!!
With these numbers for this years spring run, the fishing should be nothing short of spectacular!!!! So give me a call or e-mail me and let me know if you're interested in booking a trip....At this point and time we have plenty of prime dates available, but I know that they won't last long.... BOOKING NOW FOR SPRING CHINOOK SALMON!!!!
Hello everyone.....Wanted to let you all know that we are now booking trips for Spring Chinook....I am very limited on the availability of open days. The only days, as of now that are open, are Sundays and Mondays....Special pricing for these two days for a party of 4 will be $500 or $600 for a party of 6, for a full days fishing. Drano Lake is my favorite to fish....so I am looking forward to this season The Spring Chinook run this year will be over 40% lower than last year, but Drano Lake (16 miles above Bonneville Dam) will have the best "springer" returning numbers from the rest of the tributaries above Boneville Dam with a 2 hatchery fish limit. Wind River is predicted to only have about 2,000 fish return, with only a 1 hatchery fish limit, last years return was 4,700. Action is picking up from Cathlamet to Vancouver, the commercials have caught their fish quota so with these guys done for now we should see more fishing activity taking place with catches improving. Feel free to contact me to reserve a fishing day.... See you on the water..... Dave.........cell: 503-997-2279

OCTOBER 2nd, 2006
We are now fishing the Hanford Reach area for Fall Chinook and the fishing has been fair.....we have been putting a few fish in the boat, with a few sturgeon. With other reports that I have been hearing from the anglers fishing a little further downriver, the area that we are fishing at, should start producing some very good catches, it is just a matter of time before fishing becomes exceptional..... I personally like to fish when the water flows are high, unlike other guides which like it when the flows are lower....Fisherman are using a variety of baits and lures the entice the chinook, with the go to lure being the sardine-wrapped Kwik-fish or Flatfish. Cut-Plug Herring works well also along with spinners and Magnum Wiggle warts. Most of the presentations are made by either downriggers or jumbo jet divers. At this point I have limited seating available, so if you would like to have a chance at this fishery give me a call ASAP.
